Thank you for this excellent post, Dr Gary, eloquently setting out why you and your colleagues are reluctantly striking — to help all of us get the public healthcare system we should have.

Thank you too for speaking out against the inexcusable mutterings of our so-called Minister of Health, Simeon Brown, and his duplicitous partners — Seymour, Luxon, Willis, and the rest — with their Coalition of Cruelty ideological nonsense.

We are right beside you and supporting you with your 1st May strike and beyond.

Dr Gary Payinda thank you for sharing your heart and hurt with us. I feel your pain and that of your colleagues throughout Aotearoa. We will stand with you all tomorrow and stand against the abominable way the Minister of Health and the Coalition has treated you all.

Kia kaha.

Thank you Gary - shared to FB:

Support our doctors not privatisation - stand up for your rights NZ

COC wants to delete your already paid for services with your hard earned tax

Get rid of Simeon Brown and David Seymour!

Bang your pots and pans outside of National, NZ 1st and Act ministerial offices (more like revenue extractors for Atlas and private companies)!

Thanks Gary. Supporting you all 100%. One of my daughters was due to have carpal tunnel surgery on Thursday, which has now been postponed. Though this is inconvenient, she's 100% in support of the strike (and herself is a public servant, so knows firsthand what it's like to be steamrolled by ministers of the crown, who seem impervious to common sense and evidence-based advice). All power to you.

I keep feeling infuriated by some peoples attitudes. It is like they expect Doctors to be absolute saints who should work totally altruistically for free and have no lives outside of work AND work endless back to back shifts. This is ridiculous to me. Most Docs do this work because they care, or they wouldn't have gone through years of endless training and mentoring and training others and saving lives. It is hard enough doing a job like this well within supposed contracted conditions without all the extra they have to do. No one would want an exhausted, burned out doctor making mistakes let alone the added cruelty of hardly getting your leave or having any work life balance. You want your Docs at their best. I truly believe that a public health system is also provides the best type of training for doctors. My Sister is a senior ED Reg, she is struggling to even figure out if she will be able to have kids and a family and we hardly get to see her due to lack of leave. I miss my sister. She gives her patients and colleagues the best of herself as so many do and she is fully committed to the public health system, for so many good reasons.

Kia Ora Gary and kia kaha. You’re one of the most important voices in Aotearoa currently - don’t stop. We’re with you on May 1st and until we stop this madness and start moving back towards a fairer, more equitable society.

Considering putting on my sign to hold up at tomorrow's protest " Look these "muppets" in the eye David Seymour, and pray you never need their help"

Yes of course they would help him because they are righteous and dignified humans who are bigger than themselves...
