Waiting room death at Rotorua Hospital Emergency Department

An expanded talk after my panel discussion on RNZ this morning

Corin Dann asked some good questions. Kerrie Nuku of the New Zealand Nurse's Organisation and Katie Mills, a Rotorua GP, were very well spoken. But it's always hard to discuss issues intelligently when all you have are 20 second soundbites. Hopefully Substack listeners will find this expanded audio useful and informative.

Thoughts from an emergency doctor who thinks there has to be a better way: people should have access to public healthcare. It would build a healthier, stronger, and more functional society.
When people are unable to afford healthcare (and other socially good things) it's not just unfair, it's bad for society, and bad for the economy too.
Creating a group who experience deprivation and suffering may be profitable for corporations, but it's deeply unwise for a functional society. We can do better.
